Doritos, in full.
This multipack puts Doritos Cool Original into five 30g bags, 150g of corn tortilla chips in total, each a single serving sealed until it is opened. The full product name on the pack is Cool Original Flavour Corn Chips, and the pack notes 19% less plastic in the outer bag compared with 2025.
The seasoning
According to the published pack listing, the chips are made from corn (maize), rapeseed oil, a Cool Original flavour seasoning and antioxidants: rosemary extract, ascorbic acid, a tocopherol rich extract and citric acid. The seasoning lists salt, flavouring (containing milk), acids (malic acid, sodium acetates and citric acid), flavour enhancers (monosodium glutamate and disodium 5'-ribonucleotide), sugar, glucose syrup, onion powder, cheese powder, garlic powder, tomato powder, potassium chloride, spices, milk protein and annatto bixin for colour.
A soured cream and herb flavour
The cool in the name is a tangy, creamy note rather than a temperature. Sodium acetates, salts of the acid in vinegar, give a gentle soured tang; malic acid, the acid of sharp apples, and citric acid brighten it. The dairy flavouring, cheese powder and milk protein supply the creaminess. Onion, garlic and spices complete the picture of a soured cream and chive dip, and glucose syrup and sugar round off the acids.
Why a heat free Doritos matters in a lunchbox
Not everyone wants chilli with their lunch, and a sharp, creamy chip suits more fillings than a hot one. Cool Original goes with a chicken wrap, a cheese and tomato sandwich, a tuna salad or a pasta pot. With no chilli listed, it is also the Doritos to pack for a child who finds spicy food too much.
Numbers for one bag
The label gives 144 kcal, 6.6g of fat, 0.6g of saturates, 18g of carbohydrate, 0.6g of sugars, 1.7g of fibre, 1.8g of protein and 0.33g of salt for each 30g bag. That is about 7% of an average adult's daily energy reference intake and 6% of the salt. Per 100g it is 479 kcal, 22g of fat, 2g of saturates, 62g of carbohydrate, 1.9g of sugars, 5.6g of fibre and 1.1g of salt.
The colours on the front
On the UK front of pack scale, per 100g, fat at 22g is red, saturates at 2g amber, sugars at 1.9g green and salt at 1.1g amber. Each bag is 30g rather than the 25g of the Walkers and McCoy's multipack bags we stock, which is worth remembering when you compare calories per bag.
Allergens and diet
The published ingredients highlight milk, in the flavouring, cheese powder and milk protein. The allergy advice says the chips may contain cereals containing gluten and soya. The pack says they are suitable for vegetarians and made with no artificial colours or flavours. They are not vegan, because of the milk, and no gluten free claim is made. Recipes and factory arrangements change, so check the allergy advice on the pack you receive.
Why a corn chip
Corn gives a tortilla chip its sweet, toasted flavour and a denser, glassier crunch than a thin potato crisp. The triangle is also sturdy enough to scoop, so a Doritos bag and a pot of dip make a quick lunch. The first ingredient on the list is corn (maize), and the pack calls these corn chips.
A note on the flavour enhancers
Monosodium glutamate and disodium 5'-ribonucleotide are listed openly. Glutamate is the compound behind the savoury taste of tomatoes and cheese, and the ribonucleotide mix strengthens it, so a light dusting of seasoning tastes full.
How the chips are made
Corn dough is rolled thin, cut into triangles and cooked in rapeseed oil until crisp. The seasoning goes on while the chips are warm, and the pack says the bags are packaged in a protective atmosphere, which keeps oxygen away from the oil until a bag is opened. The pack names Walkers Snack Foods Ltd as the maker.
Less plastic in the outer bag
The pack notes 19% less plastic in the outer bag compared with 2025. That outer bag holds the five small bags together; each small bag still seals its serving until it is opened.
In the kitchen
Crushed Cool Original chips make a tangy crumb for the top of a chicken and cheese bake, or a crunchy layer over a taco salad. They also work as a coating for chicken strips, pressed onto egg washed pieces before baking. Keep a spare bag in the cupboard for exactly this; a single 30g bag is enough crumb for two chicken breasts.
Other sizes and flavours
The same flavour comes in a 180g sharing bag. In the same five bag format we stock Doritos Tangy Cheese and Chilli Heatwave, and the Doritos Variety box of twelve 30g bags holds four bags each of Cool Original, Tangy Cheese and Chilli Heatwave.
Storage
The pack advises a cool, dry place. Keep the bags in the outer pack until needed and finish each bag once it is opened.

Crunch and flavour science
What happens when you eat Doritos Cool Original Tortilla Chips comes down to three things, and reading them in order explains the bag from the first crunch to the salt left on your fingers.
The bite is a firm corn triangle with a glassy snap, sturdier than a thin potato crisp.
The seasoning is soured and creamy: sodium acetates, malic and citric acid for tang, dairy flavouring, cheese and milk protein for cream, onion, garlic and spices for the dip character.
The finish is tangy and clean, with no heat.
Getting the best from a bag
Pack it with a chicken wrap or a cheese and tomato sandwich.
How storage changes it
Keep the bags sealed in the outer pack in a cool, dry place, and finish each bag once opened.

Serving ideas
Heat free, tangy corn chips for lunchboxes and a few kitchen uses.
Serving ideas, tried and simple
The Lunchbox Week
Doritos Cool Original Tortilla Chips comes as separate bags, which is exactly what a week of packed lunches needs.
- One multipack of Doritos Cool Original Tortilla Chips
- A lunchbox with a dry compartment
- Keep the bags sealed in the outer pack until the morning you use them.
- Pack one bag per day, away from anything wet like fruit or a yoghurt pot.
- Check the per bag figures on the Ingredients and Nutrition tab if you are counting calories or salt for a child.
Small sealed bags stay crisp for far longer than a sharing bag decanted into tubs.
Five Minute Tomato Salsa
A fresh salsa takes five minutes and makes Doritos Cool Original Tortilla Chips a proper starter.
- 4 ripe tomatoes, finely chopped
- Half a red onion, finely chopped
- A small bunch of coriander, chopped
- Juice of 1 lime
- A pinch of salt
- Mix the tomato, onion and coriander in a bowl.
- Season with lime juice and a small pinch of salt; the chips bring salt of their own.
- Leave it ten minutes for the flavours to meet, then serve with the chips.
Drain off any liquid that gathers in the bowl before serving, or the chips go soft on the scoop.
Crisp Crumbed Chicken Goujons
Crushed Doritos Cool Original Tortilla Chips doubles as the crumb and the seasoning, so there is nothing else to add.
- 2 chicken breasts, cut into strips
- 1 egg, beaten
- 2 tbsp plain flour
- A sharing bag or two small bags of Doritos Cool Original Tortilla Chips
- Heat the oven to 200C, 180C fan, gas mark 6, and line a tray.
- Crush the crisps finely in the bag or a bowl with the end of a rolling pin.
- Coat each strip in flour, then egg, then press it into the crisp crumb.
- Bake for 15 to 18 minutes, turning once, until the chicken is cooked through with no pink in the middle.
The crisps are already salted, so taste before adding any more salt at the table.
Crunchy Salad Topper
A handful of Doritos Cool Original Tortilla Chips does the job croutons do on a salad, with no oven involved.
- A bowl of dressed salad leaves
- Cherry tomatoes and cucumber
- A handful of Doritos Cool Original Tortilla Chips
- Dress the salad first and toss it well.
- Break the crisps into large pieces over the top.
- Serve at once, before the dressing reaches them.
Add them after the dressing, never before, or they soak it up and soften.
Children's Party Bags
Single bags of Doritos Cool Original Tortilla Chips are the easiest thing to put in a party bag.
- Multipack of Doritos Cool Original Tortilla Chips
- Party bags
- A list of the guests' allergies from their parents
- Ask parents about allergies before the party, and check the Ingredients and Nutrition tab against every answer.
- Keep each bag sealed and add it to the party bag last.
- Label any bag that goes to a child with an allergy so the right one reaches them.
When in doubt about an allergy, leave the crisps out of that child's bag.
