Doritos, in full.
This multipack puts Doritos Chilli Heatwave into five 30g bags, 150g of corn tortilla chips in total, each sealed until it is opened. The full product name on the pack is Chilli Heatwave Flavour Corn Chips, and the pack notes 19% less plastic in the outer bag compared with 2025.
What is on the label
According to the published pack listing, the chips are made from corn (maize), rapeseed oil, a chilli heatwave flavour seasoning and antioxidants: rosemary extract, ascorbic acid, a tocopherol rich extract and citric acid.
The seasoning lists sugar, flavourings, flavour enhancers (monosodium glutamate and disodium guanylate), potassium chloride, hydrolysed vegetable protein, salt, garlic powder, paprika powder, onion powder, citric acid, cayenne pepper and paprika extract for colour.
Sweet chilli, built dry
The flavour follows the pattern of a sweet chilli sauce. Sugar gives the sticky sweetness at the start. Garlic, onion and paprika give the body of the sauce. Citric acid brings the sharpness that vinegar gives the bottled version. Cayenne pepper, a ground red chilli, is the heat. Underneath, the flavour enhancers and hydrolysed vegetable protein add a savoury depth that makes the chips taste rich for a small amount of seasoning.
A note on potassium chloride
Potassium chloride sits fourth on the seasoning list, ahead of salt. It tastes salty but contains no sodium, and the salt figure on a UK label is worked out from sodium, which is how a strongly flavoured chip keeps its salt at 0.33g per bag.
Numbers for one bag
The label gives 144 kcal, 6.7g of fat, 0.6g of saturates, 18g of carbohydrate, 1.4g of sugars, 1.7g of fibre, 1.9g of protein and 0.33g of salt for each 30g bag. That is about 7% of an average adult's daily energy reference intake and 6% of the salt. Per 100g it is 478 kcal, 22g of fat, 2g of saturates, 4.5g of sugars and 1.1g of salt. On the UK front of pack scale fat is high, saturates and salt are medium, and sugars are low.
Each Doritos multipack bag is 30g, larger than the 25g bags in the Walkers and McCoy's multipacks we stock, which is worth knowing when you compare calories per bag.
The colours on the front
On the UK front of pack scale, per 100g, fat at 22g is red, saturates at 2g amber, sugars at 4.5g green and salt at 1.1g amber. A 30g bag holds 0.33g of salt and 1.4g of sugars, a small share of the day's reference intakes.
Allergens and diet
No allergens from the UK list of 14 are highlighted in the published ingredients. The allergy advice says the chips may contain cereals containing gluten, milk and soya. The pack says they are suitable for vegetarians and made with no artificial colours or flavours. No vegan or gluten free claim is made, so we would not describe them as either. Recipes and factory arrangements change, so check the allergy advice on the pack you receive.
How hot for a lunchbox
Cayenne pepper comes near the end of the list, after sugar and the savoury ingredients, so the heat is a warm glow that builds rather than a burn. For anyone who likes a little heat, that makes it an easy lunchbox bag; for anyone who avoids chilli, Doritos Tangy Cheese and Cool Original come in the same five bag format.
How the chips are made
Corn dough is rolled thin, cut into triangles and cooked in rapeseed oil until crisp through. The seasoning is tumbled onto the warm chips, and the pack says the bags are packaged in a protective atmosphere, which keeps oxygen away from the oil. The pack names Walkers Snack Foods Ltd as the maker.
Five bags for the week
Five 30g bags cover a school or working week. A bag of Chilli Heatwave suits a chicken wrap, a cheese sandwich or a bowl of soup, and a crushed bag makes a spicy crunch over a chilli con carne or a jacket potato with cheese.
Less plastic in the outer bag
The pack notes 19% less plastic in the outer bag compared with 2025, the bag that holds the five small bags together. Each small bag still keeps its serving sealed until it is opened.
Cooling partners
If the heat builds more than you would like, reach for dairy rather than water. Capsaicin, the compound that makes chilli hot, dissolves in fat rather than water, and milk proteins help carry it away, which is why a glass of milk, a yoghurt dip or soured cream calms chilli heat better than a cold drink. Cucumber sticks in the lunchbox help too, for the cool crunch alone.
Other sizes
The same flavour comes in a 180g sharing bag, and the Doritos Variety box of twelve 30g bags mixes several flavours. For more heat, Doritos Extra Flamin Hot comes in a 163g sharing bag.
Storage
The pack advises a cool, dry place. Keep the bags in the outer pack until needed and finish each bag once it is opened.

Crunch and flavour science
What happens when you eat Doritos Chilli Heatwave Tortilla Chips comes down to three things, and reading them in order explains the bag from the first crunch to the salt left on your fingers.
The bite is a firm corn triangle with a glassy snap.
The seasoning is sweet chilli in dry form: sugar, garlic, onion and paprika, citric acid for tang, flavour enhancers for savour and cayenne pepper for heat.
The finish is a warm, building glow from the cayenne, with the corn sweetness underneath.
Getting the best from a bag
Pack it with a chicken wrap or crush a bag over a chilli con carne.
How storage changes it
Keep the bags sealed in the outer pack in a cool, dry place, and finish each bag once opened.

Serving ideas
Gently hot lunchbox bags with a spicy crunch to spare.
Serving ideas, tried and simple
The Lunchbox Week
Doritos Chilli Heatwave Tortilla Chips comes as separate bags, which is exactly what a week of packed lunches needs.
- One multipack of Doritos Chilli Heatwave Tortilla Chips
- A lunchbox with a dry compartment
- Keep the bags sealed in the outer pack until the morning you use them.
- Pack one bag per day, away from anything wet like fruit or a yoghurt pot.
- Check the per bag figures on the Ingredients and Nutrition tab if you are counting calories or salt for a child.
Small sealed bags stay crisp for far longer than a sharing bag decanted into tubs.
A Tray of Nachos
Doritos Chilli Heatwave Tortilla Chips spread on one tray, loaded and melted, is the sharing food tortilla chips were made for.
- A sharing bag of Doritos Chilli Heatwave Tortilla Chips
- 150g grated Cheddar or mozzarella
- Sliced jalapenos from a jar (optional)
- Soured cream and salsa to serve
- Heat the oven to 200C, 180C fan, gas mark 6.
- Spread the chips in a single layer on a large tray; piles steam instead of crisping.
- Scatter the cheese and jalapenos over the top.
- Bake for 5 to 7 minutes until the cheese has melted, then add soured cream and salsa at the table.
Build two thin layers rather than one deep one if the tray is small, so every chip gets some cheese.
Soured Cream and Chive Dip
A cool dip for Doritos Chilli Heatwave Tortilla Chips, and a good way to calm down anything with heat in it.
- 150ml soured cream
- A small bunch of chives, snipped
- A squeeze of lemon
- Black pepper
- Stir the chives and lemon into the soured cream.
- Season with black pepper; leave the salt to the crisps.
- Chill for ten minutes and serve in a small bowl next to the bag.
Thicker crisps and chips scoop best; thin ones are better dipped at the corner.
Chilli Cheese Toastie with a Crunch
A cheese toastie with Doritos Chilli Heatwave Tortilla Chips pressed inside for heat and crunch.
- 2 slices of bread
- Butter
- A handful of grated Cheddar
- A small handful of Doritos Chilli Heatwave Tortilla Chips
- Butter the outside of both slices.
- Fill with the cheese and the crisps, lightly crushed.
- Toast in a dry pan over a medium heat for 3 minutes a side, pressing down, until golden and melted.
Crush the crisps only lightly; whole pieces keep more crunch inside the melted cheese.
Five Minute Tomato Salsa
A fresh salsa takes five minutes and makes Doritos Chilli Heatwave Tortilla Chips a proper starter.
- 4 ripe tomatoes, finely chopped
- Half a red onion, finely chopped
- A small bunch of coriander, chopped
- Juice of 1 lime
- A pinch of salt
- Mix the tomato, onion and coriander in a bowl.
- Season with lime juice and a small pinch of salt; the chips bring salt of their own.
- Leave it ten minutes for the flavours to meet, then serve with the chips.
Drain off any liquid that gathers in the bowl before serving, or the chips go soft on the scoop.
